STARTING ENGINE
Instructions

CAUTION: Start engine ONLY outdoors or in a well ventilated area. Exhaust fumes are very dangerous.

Note: The tractor has a safety switch. The engine will not start unless the PTO switch lever is in the OFF position and transmission lever is in N (neutral) position

1. Move PTO switch lever to OFF position.

2. Move shift lever to N (neutral) position.

3. Move throttle lever to one-fourth position.
4. Pull choke knob up all the way if engine is cold. Leave choke knob down if engine is warm.
5. Push clutch-brake pedal all the way down.

6. Turn key to START position.

IMPORTANT: Do not operate starter for more than 20 seconds at a time or you may damage starter. Wait 2 minutes befor you try again.

7. After engine starts:
-Release key to RUN position.
-Gradually push choke knob in.
-Move throttle lever to half-throttle position.

8. Check ammeter. When engine is running, needle should be in black (+) area or between black and amber (-). If needle is in amber area, stop engine and check electrical connections, or see your John Deere dealer.
   
WARMING AND IDLING ENGINE
Instructions

Warming Engine

Run engine at half speed for 2 to 3 minutes.

Idling Engine

1. The engine is air-cooled and needs a large volume of air to keep cool. Keep grille and side panels clean.

2. Avoid unnecessary engine idling

 
STOPPING ENGINE
Instructions  

1. Move throttle lever down to SLOW position.

2. Turn key to OFF position.

3. Remove key.

4. Lock park brake.
